Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Sometimes our fear limits us from trusting God and believing in impossible things. We say that we believe in a God who became flesh and dwelt among us, but we continue to live and operate from a place of fear. If the good news of Christmas is true, then what do we have to be afraid of?

When Zechariah saw the angel of the Lord he was terrified and overwhelmed with fear. And yet the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid.” This is a divine command that is repeated throughout Scripture. Fear – be it of an illness, a loss of a job, a vice that one can no longer resist – is a power opposed to God. But according to the Scriptures there is no reason to be afraid for God will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us. The Bible, Christ, the faith – all are one great battle cry against fear in the lives of human beings. We shall no longer be afraid, for joy and gladness are ours.

God of immeasurable love, in you there is no fear. Help me to cast all fears aside, and trust that joy and gladness are mine. This Advent season, prepare my heart to overcome all fear and trust in your strength.

How can we be in prayer with you?
Please let us know!

  1. What gives you greatest fear?
