Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:2-3

Reflection
Reflection

So much of what we see is broken. People are suffering, racism persists, and hatred and violence surround us. At times it can feel as though we, like the Israelites, are standing in a forgotten and forsaken land. Our confidence in God collides with despair and hopelessness, and at times we question the power and goodness of God.

During a time of despair, Zechariah was given a vision of hope that he would have a child and that joy and gladness would be his. We, too, have been given a vision of hope, and it also includes the birth of a child - Jesus. Part of the Advent season includes holding fast to this vision of hope. And part of being Advent people means that we cannot let our resources, our circumstances, or our shattered and broken world dictate our visions. Despite all the brokenness we see, we know this is not all that there is to see.

Prayer
Prayer

Gracious and Holy One, thank you for the vision of hope that we find in Christ Jesus. Thank you that despite all the pain and suffering we see, there is more to be seen. Instill in me the vision of a new reality under the love and power of Christ.

Amen.
